Becoming a Health Promoting Campus
UCSC adopted the Okanagan Charter on May 13, 2024. The internationally recognized charter provides foundational language, principles and a vision for well-being in person, place and planet for colleges and universities. By adopting the charter, we make an institutional commitment to move toward more systems-level strategies that influence the health and well-being of every member of the UCSC community, beginning the process of becoming a true Health Promoting Campus.
The Okanagan Charter outlines two Calls to Action
- To embed health into all aspects of campus culture, across the administration, operations and academic mandates
- To lead health promotion action and collaboration locally and globally
Benefits of becoming a health promoting campus
Our aim is to seamlessly integrate health considerations into everyday operations, business practices, and academic pursuits at UC Santa Cruz, with the Okanagan Charter serving as our guiding framework. Together with our newly formed Well-Being Collective, we will:
Demonstrate leadership
This commitment sends a powerful message about the type of institution that UCSC aspires to be—one that excels in teaching, learning and research and recognizes that this excellence is supported by the well-being of our people and places.
Engage with our community
Health promoting campus work generates dialogue and research to inform health and well-being initiatives for the UCSC community. Coordinated efforts lead to greater impact.
Support the well-being
of our campus
Guide and inspire action to help faculty, staff, and students achieve their full potential. This strategic work will be organized into five key pillars.
